How’s that foot taste, Dina?

I watch Breakfast TV every morning and have done so for quite some time. I like the casual-ness of it, how the hosts make mistakes and roll with it and just look like they’re having an all around good time. When Dina took over for Liza over a year ago, I was all for it. I liked Liza, but was happy with their choice and thought Dina fit in well. She and Kevin get along, I like her interview style, she isvery comfortable in her role without being over the top. She’s also gorgeous. But this morning? She messed up but good.
It all started with a viewer writing in saying that yesterday’s Sunshine Girl in the Toronto Sun looked a lot like Dina. So they showed the picture and well, she kind of does! She had a good chuckle about it and we seemingly moved on. Well, a quick thinking Sun employee called the newsroom at City asking if Dina would be interested in being a Sunshine girl. Now, I don’t necessarily think she should or shouldn’t do it. Not a great fan of the Sunshine Girl. But Dina went a little too far. Kevin pushed it a bit, the audience was supportive, Dina said something along the lines of “my father would never allow it!” and went on and on. And on. She went too far. She tried to backtrack a little and soften the blow.
Like I said, I’m not a fan, but if those girls want to do that, go right ahead. I’m not judging. Dina did. And it became uncomfortable. Kevin managed to keep it light and got some good jokes about muffins in the mix (you had to be there). But overall, if I’m that Sunshine Girl, I’m seriously offended.
I think she crossed the line and for a successful woman on TV who just happens to be gorgeous? People in glass houses… Just sayin’

Just one more reason, on the already long list of reasons, why I can’t watch that show anymore.

Leave my Dina alone! What did she ever to do you?
I never got to see the segment, but I trust Dina made the right decision. If she wasn’t pressured by Kevin et al, her response would’ve been a lot different.

Trust me if you saw UK morning TV you would never watch it again, it’s like catching a time machine back to the 60’s; with compelling stories about tuppa wear!

I caught a little bit of the segment in the background that morning - I didn’t find it particularly insulting. And really, if you’re willing to be a Sunshine Girl, you have to know there’s going to be scrutiny from somebody. If Dina wasn’t gorgeous, would that have made her comments more respectable? Just curious.

What are you talking about? Dina just said her father would never allow her to do it. So what judging did she do? I think you are the one pushing the issue.
And to Zoey Castelino, if you already have a long list of reasons not to watch BT, then you must be a fake. For just even one reason, you should have stopped watching BT already.

I caught the segment, and I’m pretty sure Dina said something to the effect of “not that there’s anything wrong with being a Sunshine Girl” immediately after she refused to do it.
If I were Dina, I’d be upset to be ambushed like that on live TV. I don’t think she saw it coming, based on her reaction. There was obviously some planning that went into the segment - BT had a live phone poll set up.

It wasn’t just the part about her father (although, to me, that says that she’s saying that the Sunshine Girl’s father isn’t as protective and involved as hers), it was her overall tone and how far she took it. At first it was funny, it just got a little uncomfortable.
I don’t think her being gorgeous makes a difference- it was what she was saying about the whole thing. I just used the example of her being gorgeous to say that I would be surprised if her looks hadn’t helped her along the way, just like the Sunshine Girl’s hoping will happen.
For the record, I really like Dina and love BT and will continue to watch it…just found that segment a little hard to watch by the end of it.

Hey Chris! Always good to hear from you:)
To me, when she said “not that there’s anything wrong with being a Sunshine Girl,” it was part of her back pedalling and actually made it worse.
And the phone poll wasn’t planned- they whipped it up on the spot. Kevin was surprised they had one but really, that sort of thing just takes a minute to prep. Them talking about Dina’s doppleganger was planned, but the actual offer and everything that came after, was not. She wasn’t ambushed though…I just think she handled it poorly.
But I’m clearly alone on this…which is just fine;) It’s no fun when everyone just agrees with you!

It seemed to me that Dina made up the story about her dad not allowing her to be a Sunshine Girl. It looked like she tried to play it down so that it would keep going, watching Dina and knowing the type of person she is she would love to be a Sunshine Girl.
Dina stop trying so hard to be funny and don’t ever do the Trump thing again cuz it’s not funny and you look just like that other loser that does it.

People say a lot of things they don’t necessarily mean. Or at least, they don’t necessarily intend to share with the rest of the world. I think what happened to Dina was unintentional. I’ve been in similar situations in the past wherein I couldn’t help but let myself slip. Perhaps this Sunshine Girl issue just became a little too close to her that she needed to say something to get it out of her system.
