It is definitely true that partners should and do express their love for one another in a myriad of ways throughout the year. But, although Valentine's Day may be a hallmark holiday, this isn't a reason to hate it. The same argument could be made about Christmas, which doesn't even mark Christ's birth (which occured during summer months I believe) and people of faith (disclaimer: not me) celebrate their beliefs throughout the year, but there's something special about setting aside the day to honor everything that Christianity stands for. The same things stands for Valentine's Day - why not have a holiday that represents love. Perhaps the best way to celebrate V Day would be to reposition it as a holiday based on all kinds of love, not just for couples. Ps. My V Day consists of champagne and fried chicken with my husband. It's indulgent and our way of doing something "special." In defense of Valentine’s Day…
